Growing Local Food in Golcar and Longwood:  What's happening and how to get involved

When:   Saturday January 14 and Saturday January 28

Where:  Drop By Centre, Sycamore Avenue, Golcar

Council, schools, community groups and individuals are working to provide community gardens, allotments and a chance to learn to grow fruit and veg for everyone in Golcar and Longwood.

- There are plans to provide new and newly renovated allotments, possibly at Parkwood Road, Moorcroft, Golcar Flats and Sycamore Avenue

- The Green Valley Grocer, Slaithwaite, will buy good quality, locally grown fruit, vegetables and preserves from local growers and producers

- A new market garden co-operative in Parkwood Road, Golcar, is looking for members

- Schools and community groups are establishing vegetable gardens

Where: Drop By Centre in Sycamore Avenue, Golcar

Kirklees Environment Partnership and Information by Design have drawn up a questionnaire aimed at finding out more about growing food in Golcar and Longwood and are looking for volunteers to help carry this out.

There will be a training session for survey volunteers (with hot dinners, so please let us know if you can come)
When: Saturday January 28, 10am-3.30pm
Where: Drop By Centre, Sycamore Avenue, Golcar

The Green Valley Grocer buys good quality local produce by arrangement with individuals and businesses from within a 30-mile radius of the shop in Carr Lane, Slaithwaite, and is always interested in talking to potential new suppliers
